Practical Wisdom
How might insights from yogic traditions inspire us today? Where can we turn to find guidance in uncertain times, when many are questioning long-held assumptions? What connects ancient teachings to worldly concerns in the 21st century? Would you like to be part of a group that explores these ideas through contemplative dialogue?
Our diverse community meets once a month for collective inquiry. Each session has an organising theme, either highlighting an aspect of yoga philosophy and how to apply it, or addressing an issue of contemporary relevance from yogic perspectives. Either way, the aim is the same – to reflect on what matters via structured discussions.
Group members can suggest potential subjects, as well as ask questions and continue conversations in online forums. Materials to prepare for each live session are shared in advance, including brief readings and prompts for reflection. One-to-one discussions with the facilitator, Daniel Simpson, can also be booked as an optional extra.
The overall goal is to integrate thinking about how to live in accordance with values. Together, we develop a space for supportive conversations, combining deep listening with critical thinking. This builds on the approach of the year-long Path of Knowledge course, though it's open to anyone who feels called to join us.
To promote group coherence – and deepen inquiry – it's a 12-month process. All sessions are recorded if you can't be there live, and only participants can access the replays. As an additional bonus, and to anchor discussions in yogic teachings, enrolment includes 50% off the following courses. Each can be studied on demand and includes Q&A:

Facilitator
Daniel Simpson is the author of The Truth of Yoga, an accessible overview of history and philosophy. Having originally studied at Cambridge, he earned an M.A. in yoga studies from SOAS (at the University of London), where he subsequently taught.
He's been studying and practising yoga in various forms since the 1990s, and contributes to teacher trainings internationally, as well as running courses for the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies – and via this website.
His approach is grounded in personal experience, combining clarity with critical thinking. It's also lightened by humour and a passion for stories that he once pursued as a foreign correspondent. He now draws on those skills to host the Ancient Futures podcast.
